What kind of marriage/partnership do you have?

Show of hands: Who's married to/partnered with your ideal match? Who's married to/partnered with someone who isn't your ideal match on paper, but you're perfectly happy anyway?

I watched this completely fascinating BBC special last night about matchmaking, and the moral of the story was "Huh. We have no idea why those two like each other, or why these two don't."

So I'm just curious: There are those couples, you know the ones, who like the same music, have the same hobbies, finish each other's sentences, joined at the hip - people you can't imagine with anyone else because the match is perfect. But then there are the couples who you wouldn't have thought would make a good match on paper, but go figure, there they are, happily together.

So which one is yours? Somewhere in the middle? Are you soulmates? Are you just a couple of people who accidentally found each other and realized it worked? How compatible are you on paper, versus how compatible you are in your actual relationship?

(I realize my sample is biased toward smartypants lefty internet mefi types, but that's my demographic too, so that's what I'm curious about.)
