Can anyone recommend a good home serger? A few desired features: coverstitch, rolled hem, 4 thread. Thanks!
Husqvarna, Janome, and Babylock are the most recommended on the sewing lists. I've been quite happy with my Huskylock, but I have friends who have been just as pleased with other brands.
As Jaquilynne points out, the coverstitch adds a lot to the price and complexity of the machine. You may find that you'd rather get a separate dedicated coverstitch machine.
A large part of your eventual satisfaction with the machine has to do with personal preference -- I don't like self-threaders at all, and find that the controls on a Janome are set up in a fashion that I don't like. Doesn't mean that they're not good machines, just means that I don't like them.
Find a good sewing machine dealer *or two, or three) in your area, and test-drive as many sergers as you can. Most of the chain fabric stores just sell machines-in-a-box; although some do have a local dealer presence. You're also test-driving the dealer.
