How do I link to a previous comment in Metafilter?

This post was deleted for the following reason: This sort of how-to-use-the-site question needs to go in Metatalk, not AskMe. -- cortex

Click on the time that the comment was made, and then copy the url that appears in your browser address bar up yonder.

For example, here is a comment I made earlier today. I clicked on the time that I made it, copied the url that appeared in my address bar, came here, typed this comment, highlighted the word here, then clicked on the word link under the field where I'm typing (where it says B I link), and pasted the address when prompted.

right click the time, choose 'copy link location'

I was trying for ages to get the code to show up, but preview screws everything up.

Instead, I'll link to this from W3 Schools, which will tell you how to make the link in any webpage without the need for Metafilter's "link" button.

Just a small note if you read through it - nowadays using target="_blank" (which opens a link in a new window) is generally considered bad form. And you don't really need to worry about the bit about named anchors.

Actually the named anchors bit is critical, It's what allows you to link to a specific comment rather than the whole thread. Matt creates the anchors but you still need to know how to reference them.

PS: this question should have been in metatalk.
