Barack Obama now has more than 1.5 million donors. How many donors do Clinton or McCain have?

I can't seem to figure it out; the internets are failing me.

might be helpful if you twiddle around with the settings. I also read something recently about how deeply suspect those claims of "we raised 97 zillion dollars the day after our victory in [place]" can be and how the numbers get massaged, but I can't find the link right now. Sorry.

As of April 24, Clinton had 1.3 million donors.

This February 26 article estimates McCain had 150,000 small donors (gave less than $200) as compared to 225,000 for Clinton and 800,000 for Obama. Those 150,000 donors gave $11.4 million of the total $52 million. Let's say conservatively, the remaining $40.6 million was spread across donations averaging $250. That puts the number of donors giving $200 or more at 162,400 donors for a combined total of 312,400 donors in Feb 26.

Granted, March and April were huge fundraising months for all the candidates so that McCain figure is on the low side. But judging by the relative amounts of money generated by each candidate, it still wouldn't come anywhere near the amount of donors for Clinton and Obama.

Note that these counts do not include PAC contributions which comprise a large chunk of Clinton and McCain's campaign war chests.

You read that wrong.

It says, "Clinton has a smaller donor base than Obama's network of more than 1.3 million."

That means that as of April 24, Obama's was 1.3 million, and Clinton's was "smaller".
