Parkinson's Support Groups
July 22, 2004 6:47 AM

An older friend of mine was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's. She's looking for a good support group, either online, or in the NYC area. The in-hospital one her doctor referred her to turned her off for being "too depressing and not helpful". Does anyone have any good suggestions, or experience in this area?

While I don't have any personal experience from which to draw upon, a little bit of google-fu produced some listings for support groups local to NYC.

They may be in the least a starting point for finding a good support network for your friend to plug in to.

my uncle Bob had it for years and years--he used to go to Beth Israel--2 support groups listed there.

I hear there are much much much better drugs for it now--he hated the drugs he had to take--they dulled everything, including his mind.
