ATX Tattoo Parlor?

Recommendations for a tattoo parlor in Austin, TX?

I'm about to get my first tattoo. It's likely going to be simple (just some short text on my right shoulder/back). Anybody have a recommendation for a good location in Austin to get this done at?

I did a lot of asking around and research before I got my first piercing a few years ago, and went to Atomic Tattoo & Piercing on Burnet. They also have three other locations in town.

I got mine at Capitol City Tattoo, I believe. On 6th street. No regrets!

I got my tiny, all-black, simple tattoo done at Atomic on Burnet as well. $75, fast, no waiting, good quality, clean, nice people. I do know and have recommendations for the other end of the tattoo spectrum -- my partner's work is large, multicolored, and complicated -- but for something simple? I'd go to Atomic.

Sure! Gully Cat Tattoo on S. 1st has several artists who work in primarily an old-school style, though there is a lot of Asian influence on their work as well. My partner's (so far) floral half sleeve was done freehand by Mike Terrell, and she gets compliments on the color all the time; it's two years old now and the color looks fresh. I love Megan's old school work there, too. It's a pleasant shop and the artists are talented and friendly. (I've sat and chatted for many, many hours while she got her arm done.)

Chris Gunn at Southside Tattoo (S. Congress) gets recommended and praised all the time for his Asian and floral work too, and I have seen many of his tattoos with beautiful color.

Karen Slafter at Resurrection Tattoo on S. Lamar has some gorgeous work on her website and has won the Chronicle award more than once, I believe, but I don't know if I've seen her work in the wild.
