What is the origin and meaning of "I can has a cheeseburger?"
I can has cheezburger? It's one of the earlier lolcat image macros, where you find a picture of a cat, figure out some kind of witty caption for it, and turn it into pidgin-English "kitteh."

A blog entry which suggests how rapidly evolving internet subcultures lead to the LOLcat phenomenon. Interesting if you're into etymology and that sort of thing.
I wonder if there are any serious academic studies about internet subcultures available.

WalterMitty: ROFLCon has a couple of academics coming to speak. Not sure if they've published anything though.

I believe this is the original. I don't think it's anything more complicated that it's funny for a cat to ask for a cheeseburger. And that cats can't speak proper English. Silly cats.
