Can one safely purchase real marijuana seeds online?

There seem to be a lot of sites out there selling marijuana seeds -- but how can you tell if what they're offering is real? And if it is real, how can they get away with it? Would any sane person turn personal information over to a seed-selling web site to order pot seeds? If no, what alternative do I have? If yes, can anyone personally vouch for a particular site?

This post was deleted for the following reason: Answer is no, it's not legal. Probably not a good idea to share info on where to get it either, since the server is in the US as well. -- mathowie

Any ad like that just REEKS of "sting operation". I wouldn't in a million years do business with someone who's operating that far above the radar.

Actually, you can go to your local Walmart and buy the same marijuana seeds you're likely to get from these places. Go to the pet department and buy a big bag of bird seed.

Sterile hemp seeds are a common ingredient in bird feed mixes, and I understand many of these online marijuana seed sellers are scam artists selling what amounts to bird feed. After all, once you're scammed, who are you going to complain to?

No, MJ seeds cannot be legally purchased, sold, or transported in the U.S.

No. Not in the U.S. If the seller is in Canada or the Netherlands, there may be a low risk for them but not for you.

On the other hand, you can buy mushroom spores online, legally, in most states in the U.S.

You cannot legally purchase marijuana seeds in the US.

You can, however, find a few beneath your couch cushions.

With Marc Emery facing extradition from Canada to the US for selling seeds to Americans, you can be pretty confident that the US government is keeping a close eye on this sort of thing (and that it isn't so low-risk anymore for them).

What alternative do you have? Pick through your pot each time you buy a bag and save the seeds. That's what my x used to do. Of course he never actually tried to grow any, so I'm not really sure why he bothered.

If you are buying high quality cannabis then you shouldn't have any seeds in it (as it will be the flowers from female plants that were never pollinated by males). That being said if you are buying "middies" there should be a few seeds in there because the person growing it was lazy, and it it's strain still has the potential to be quite exceptional. So pick through a bag of pot, and take out any seeds you find, see if any of them well sprout when left on a wet paper towel and then plant those little guys and follow amply available online instructions from there.

If you are looking for some pot, or are asking this question because you cannot find it, then I cant help you out, try craigslist and prepare for the consequences.

Yes, there are several reputable cannabis seed shops online. I would be wary of any that ship out of the Netherlands - only because it is more likely that small, light packages from the Netherlands will be searched by U.S. Customs. I would suggest companies that ship out of Canada or the U.K.

There are several message boards/forums for cannabis growers that can provide you with answers to any more questions that you may have:

Your profile says that you are in New York. If so, this is completely illegal irrespective of the safety issue.

This question should be deleted.

Really, you should have asked this anonymously. Your location is known, and I can't imagine that Mathowie would defy a warrant.

Odds are, nothing will happen this time. But seriously, you're asking a loaded question quite carelessly.
