Capturing video doesn't work through any inputs.

Video question, Please hope me. I'm interested in importing videos at home but can't get the video to import through any input.

I have a HP with 2.0 Ghz processor, and firewire ports. Importing has been unsuccessful through the firewire port and the Pinnacle Bluebox I have installed. I have tried importing in both moviemaker and Adobe Premier but neither have worked. Also, I have tried it with four different cameras, Sony VX1000, Sony TRV9, Canon ZR65 and CAnon ZR70.

I am certain the firewire port works, as I used it for something else this weekend, I've never successfully used the bluebox.

Hints or suggestions (besides get a mac) for importing video to a PC?

1. Grab virtualub (free open source video processor)*

1a. Grab the Panasonic DV codec or similar

2. Read up on codecs

3. Read up some more (yep, they apply to sound as well)

*Operative word is "capture", not "import"

I should hve been more specific (which might have been the problem I was having trying to solve this). My computer would detect the camera and say that it was an AVC Subunit, but wouldn't find the right driver. I kept searching for drivers for the cameras I was using, instead, when I searched for AVC subunit, it came up as the first google hit.

Thanks for the other info, though!

The solution.
