Are you asking for a number of places that sell pizzas, or a number of places that are exclusively pizzerias?

I don't have an aswer, but you might want to read through Slice NY, which might have a clue.

The NYC Dept of Health and Mental Hygiene lists 1250 restaurants with the word "pizza" in the restaurant name and 394 restaurants with the word "pizzeria" in the restaurant name. Restaurant inspection information.

Menupages has 667 results for the pizza category. 80 of these are in Brooklyn, the rest in Manhattan. I am sure this is a gross understatement for the 5 boroughs but probably reasonably close for Manhattan.
