used bicycles in NYC
September 26, 2007 11:28 AM
In the pre Giuliani days there were a lot of used bikes floating around NYC for sale. I've been out of the game for a while and am looking for shops that deal in used bicycles. Slim pickings on craigslist.... Any local NY/NJ riders have a suggestion?
I bought a used bike at the Recycle-A-Bicycle shop on the Lower East Side. For a few months after I bought it, I went back for various minor tune-ups and they never charged me. Plenty of nice folks working there.
I can't speak much to their prices, but my impression is that their used bikes might be a little pricier than other shops. But then, it is a non-profit that teaches kids about cycling, so you could look at it as being a small donation.

drop by 49 e. houston street on a tuesday or thursday night and asked the guys running the bike-repair workshop in the basement if they have anything for sale at the moment.
