Wedding night getaway within an hour of New York?
August 5, 2007 8:50 PM
We're getting married in New York City and hoping to find a cozy romantic quiet getaway spot just outside the city. Ideally, this would be within an hour travel of Manhattan and be ~$150-200/night range. It'd be nice if there were a pool and/or jaccuzi and quiet natural environs. We are just looking for a beautiful place to unwind for one night before we have to start packing for our honeymoon. We're open to New Jersey or New York (Long Island, upstate) suggestions.
i'd suggest looking for bed and breakfasts in the bear mountain/harriman state park area of new york, in rockland county.

Congratulations.
The NYTimes did a recent story about three urban B & Bs. Le Refuge was mentioned very favorably, as was this place in Park Slope. (The same owners also run two places in Rhinebeck, which might work for you, as well.

A little further out, but still within 2 hours drive, is the Poconos in Pennsylvania. Campy resort area with heart shaped bathtubs and other newlywed kind of stuff, plus some very pretty (not to mention romantic), hilly countryside. Check out Bushkill Falls, the "Niagara of Pennsylvania" for a day hike.

I came into the thread to recommend Le Refuge Inn and was pleased to see it was named in the first response. My wife and I spent the night there after our City Hall wedding and were very pleased with it, and City Island really is completely isolated from the urban madness of NYC. If you decide to do it, report back!

There's always Highlands, NJ - just a ferry ride away and there are woods to hike in, beaches to swim in and all kinds of spots for quiet times. I don't have a specific B&B for you as I stay with my boyfriend's family every time we go up, but as a place to go it can't be beat.
