If you wait for true love
You will wait alone.
(can I have another fortune cookie please?)

When she's getting ready to go out and I'm already standing by the door, and we're late and she's like "I'm ready, I just need to look for..."? About 5-10 minutes.

I'd like to buy some context, pat.
Seriously, I'd wait for my true love forever and a day. Or till I met someone else. There is no one true love.

You write "your true love" as if there's only one.
If you're looking to meet someone, you could find a hobby or special interest and discover some like-minded folks. If you're waiting on someone you already know, either to come around or come home, then there isn't enough information here to go on.

Wait. I know that user name.
Are you asking about a long distance relationship, or "help, he dumped me when I had to go back to work, how long do I wait for him to change his mind"? Or, I suppose, option c, "another damn relationship didn't work, how long do I go before I give up and shoot myself for being a failure?"
With active work from both parties, a "not actually near each other" relationship isn't that bad, but if one person doesn't want to be in a relationship it's already doomed, don't wait thirty seconds. (And obviously, for option c you should wait until the end of your natural life span, but don't spend your time waiting, the waiting is just a side effect of going around doing whatever sounds nice.)

Way too long, unfortunately. Good luck!

Response by poster: Back across the country. Everything was good. He was supposed to be here tomorrow. He called last night. His divorce is final today. He doesn't want to pull me into the turmoil of his life right now. Doesn't know when we would get back together. Can't "predict the future." Haven't stopped crying for 20 hours.

Well, the important thing to understand is that I, personally, am a man who will fight for your honor. Put another way, I'll be the hero you've been dreaming of. So, taking this under consideration, I imagine that we'll live forever, at the same time knowing together that, all things considered, we did it all for the glory of love.
So, let's say three hours. Two if it's raining.

Seriously though, if I had to be apart from someone I truly loved for whatever reason, I could never put a time on how long I would wait as life is too unpredictable like that.
