Dinner

About ten years or so ago I read an article by a woman who's boyfriend worked in some sort of music related industry and she ended up having Winona Ryder, Dave Pirner, Bruce Springsteen, and Bruce's mom over for dinner. She talked a lot of trash on Winona in the article. Does anyone remember this piece of writing and where it appeared?

Googling 'winona ryder bruce springsteen pirner dinner' got the name of the writer - Denise Sullivan. I think her bf was Wesley Stace but that's not a definite.

Maybe not bf and gf, but I think there's a connection? He had BS and WR and DP over for dinner too. Weird coincidence, or same dinner? He made curry.

No coincidence -- I believe Sullivan and Stace were married at one point (Stace is better known as the songwriter John Wesley Harding). From his extensive musical ouevre, I highly recommend Here Comes The Groom and John Wesley Harding's New Deal.

Not answering the question but Denise Sullivan played bells on this John Wesley Harding Album (see credits). So safe bet it was the same dinner. Maybe you could ask him at his myspace. Heh.

So to round it up: the article is in 'Ben is Dead' zine. (from first answer).

The Horowitz article is followed by Denise Sullivan's report on her dinner with Ryder and then-boyfriend Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum, Bruce Springsteen, and Springsteen's mom. The two pieces are in stark contrast to one another: The Horowitz interview portrays Ryder as unaffected by fame while Sullivan's piece showcases a fame- and self-obsessed young actress.

Here's the 'Ben is Dead' deceased website.

I must be bored Denise has a blog, also her own website. Maybe ask her for a copy at her myspace.

Damn, I miss Ben is Dead. Don't miss their wonderful book, Retro Hell, an A to Z of Gen X pop culture. (Does not contain this article though.)
