What sorts of occupations / jobs are there available in the United States (Minnesota) where one need only take an examination to apply? I'm aware of Post Office jobs and Boiler attendant ....
As long as you're not otherwise disqualified due to lack of physical fitness, criminal record, etc., most initial appointments to Police Departments and Fire Departments are based upon exam scores.

The civil service exam is a way of getting into a whole bunch of jobs.
You could also get a job with a place like Sylvan or Kaplan Test Prep centers if you've done well on an exam like the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT or even the SAT or the ACT.

I took an exam to be a census taker back 2000. I scored well enough to be made "team captain" for my area, no resumé, no nothing. It paid okay too (though I didn't actually do it becausae I got a better offer). Too bad it only comes around once every ten years.

Many city/county/state jobs are available as civil service jobs. Check the website for your local governments to see what they have available.
