STOP AUTOREFRESH NOW!

how do i prevent certain webpages from autorefreshing?

i'm on an XP machine using firefox 1.5 and i have a 9-tab homepage setting.

this never used to be a problem until two more of the sites began to autorefresh (only one had done so before) so now these three sites, which i'd like to keep open as tabs, freeze firefox completely whenever they autorefresh.

i want it to stop! i couldn't find an about:config setting that would help me. any ideas?

That require greasemonkey, btw, which you should be using anyway.

Direct link to script.

fyi, I don't actually use that script, I just found it.

You can do all kinds of things like that using a freeware program called Proxomitron. It sits between your browser and the web and acts like a proxy; you can set it up to do string search-and-replace operations on the incoming HTML on the fly.

It's also an ad blocker and does a lot of other interesting things. "Auto-refresh prevention" is one of the canned rules that comes with it.

It's extremely useful.

Hitting ESC after the page has loaded will stop it from refreshing.
