If I can't find this book, I may be driven to drink, too.

I am going insane trying to find this book. The author was interviewed on Fresh Air (it might have been a repeat, but played not that long ago). In order to help you help me, there is . . .

I remember that it was a woman, and she'd written basically a memoir about growing up drunk. I remember very clearly that she related this story where after the publication of her book, her mom ran into (something like) her third grade teacher in the grocery store, and told him about the author's life turning around, and this book and whatnot, and he sent her a really cool letter that included (and I am SURE of this detail) the program from her (elementary or middle school) graduation.

I WANT to read this book, but I can't google it up. I've been through Fresh Air's calendar from April and May and nothing stands out (but that doesn't mean it's not there).

Have you tried the advanced search on npr.org? This seems to be a likely match.
