Help me find this book I was obsessed with in the early 2000s

There is this book I read as a child, with strange pen illustrations that went into a lot of detail about American history. Please help me find it?

There are only a few details I can remember and Google is useless:
1) It's a thick, wider book. Maybe has some grass on the front?
2) It has illustrations regarding an ice cream soda fountain and the history of it.
3) Talks about cocaine in making Coca cola!
4) Also talks about Isaac Netwton and dropping an apple on his head.
5) The illustrations are so strange, it's like a cross between Hark a Vagrant and The Far Side. It's all pen, black and white, and the eyes are a little beady and weird.
6) The writing tone is captivating, not dumbed down, and very fun and informational. Very long and in-depth, I think it was definitely written for an older audience, but still in a friendly tone.
7) From the early 2000s, I'm sure. Was probably bought locally in the SF Bay Area, closer to South Bay.

Welcome to any of your best guesses!

It's probably not this, but some of what you are describing sounds like the Provensen's wonderful work: My Fellow Americans?

Wow amazing!!! Thank you so much all! Although if other people come across this question, I would be really interested to know of any recommendations for similar books, this is apparently a genre of book that I am very into!
