Replacement Lenovo battery hunt
August 11, 2024 10:06 AM

My T470 ThinkPad needs a new battery. I thought this would be something I could purchase directly from Lenovo but apparently they don't sell replacement batteries for this laptop anymore. I've found a few potential sources for a replacement but I know that third-party batteries in general can be very hit or miss.

Hoping someone on here has some personal experience and can recommend a good, reliable source. I've seen these sources for batteries discussed on various Reddit threads on replacing ThinkPad batteries but it seems like some people have great experiences and others have terrible experiences.

- KingSener
- Green Cell
- Battery Depot
- eBay sellers with lots of positive reviews

Huh. I just (April) got a new battery for my T480 from Lenovo; I'm surprised that a T470 and/or four months would make a difference.

I also got a new internal battery from IFixit, and it works fine and the instructions it came with were good, so consider this a weak vote for them if they're an option.

Yeah Ifixit might not be the cheapest option, but they should be reliable.

I had an old ThinkPad battery rebuilt recently by CHANS Battery Rebuild. I highly recommend them, they did a great job.

As a T480 owner who has been hemming and hawing about which replacement battery to buy for months, I feel your pain.

I think this is the replacement from Lenovo (Encompass is the official Lenovo parts store.) I think their stuff may go out of stock often and then is back in stock. I am not sure whether "OEM" batteries through Encompass are actually any better than the right non-OEM one--I have seen so much debate and a variety of experiences with this online, like you have.
