Super specific question with regards to the tv show Inspector Lewis
August 10, 2024 8:07 AM

On the IMDb page someone's left a comment about an episode. Pretty sure I've seen every episode at least once and have never seen the thing being commented on.

This is on the IMDb for Inspector Lewis, under Parent's Guide/Sex and Nudity:

In one episode there is a scene depicting a woman pulled from the river naked. The camera lingers on her completely naked form for long periods of time as men and women gather in a circle to stare. This scene is gratuitous nudity and quite unnecessary. Stopped watching after that.

I have seen the entire series, some episodes more than once, so I don't know why I even clicked on Parent's Guide in the first place. Is this for real? Anyone else ever seen this referenced episode or is this just trolling? My immediate thought was that the person who left the comment mixed up Inspector Lewis with some other show. Now my brain keeps thinking of this comment and I need to know which episode this is!

If you were watching it on PBS in the US, they surely would have cut that shot out.

There's a body pulled from a river in "Magnum Opus" with some lingering shots, but the victim isn't naked.

This person has definitely mixed this up with a different show. I'm fairly sure Lewis was originally shown pre-watershed on ITV, they never would have shown full nudity of a female victim, let alone had a long scene featuring it.

I love that show and have watched it through twice. This scene doesn't sound familiar at all. The reviewer is either hyper-sensitive to any nudity at all, or is thinking of a different show.

I'm struggling to think of any British broadcast TV crime show that would have such a scene. That's HBO-level stuff, and on the harsher end there, too. Obviously it's not all cozies these days, but they know their audience.

I think that scene is from the original Prime Suspect (first episode?).

Edit: maybe it was the reboot
