Food and Stuff near Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, Portland, OR
January 20, 2024 3:14 PM

I have an appointment on Monday in - Portland? Beaverton? - at the Oregon Clinic ENT west. I’m not even remotely familiar with the area and need suggestions for lunch and a couple other city errands it would be good to run nearby. Difficulty level: Will the ice be gone?

My daughter is coming with me. We don’t get over to the big city often (we live in Astoria) so we try to combine errands when we do. It’s also nice to have a different lunch. Is there anything out that way that is good and not a big chain? Has to have gluten free options, would prefer not Mexican. A food truck pod would be fine.

Ideally, I would also like to drop in somewhere nearby for a quick eyebrow wax. I know this may be impossible but, hey, just in case. We’re reluctant to go into the city proper in case of lingering ice and snow and also, have to get back to pick up Toddler.

In your opinion, how are the roads likely to be on Monday? It took a couple days for the ice to clear in Astoria and parking lots were particularly dire.

We’re already planning a stop at Trader Joe’s and this may all be enough but if you know a great thrift store out that way, please let me know! Thank you!

Hi! I live down the hill from St. V’s. There’s still some snow and slush on the ground, but not really any ice on the roads. If you’re sticking to the main roads and not going deep into the more isolated neighborhoods, you won’t have any issues getting where you need to go. In terms of food and waxing, your best/closest option is going to be Cedar Hills Blvd south of 26, specifically between Walker and Hall. It’s less than five minutes from the hospital, and should have quite a few options available for food and salons.

I can't speak to food/drink options by St. Vincent's as I live in downtown Portland, but today was 39 degrees, tomorrow's supposed to be 44, and Monday's supposed to be 50, so there should be absolutely no issues with you getting into the area and dealing with driveways/parking lots etc.

And that also applies if by "city proper" you mean jumping on 26 and getting into Portland - main roads are absolutely fine as of today. Side streets might be patchy, but by Monday even that won't be a problem given the upcoming, and it's weird to type this after last week, warmer temps.

My favorite Korean restaurant Always Spring (on the 2nd floor of the Korean grocery G Mart) is near your appointment and close to a Trader Joes.

The Beaverton outposts of Goodwill are fairly good thrifting, the one by Cedar Hills is at 12975 SW Westgate Dr, Beaverton, OR 97005 and super close to the food cart pod BG Cartel.

The food choices on Cedar Hills are vast. Shake Shack, MOD Pizza, 5 Guys, Karam, a middling McMenamins, Thai, sushi, a couple of "nice" restaurants, Panera, Korean, ramen, our fave Westgate. There's stuff down Hall too, if you go further into town there's "Old Beaverton" or whatever they call it with even more choices.

Dough Zone is a 5-10 minute drive from the hospital and has great dumplings.
