In search of a new global Gamele
July 14, 2023 8:37 PM

I play various daily games (though we don’t always play daily) with people in my life : Wordle, Worldle, WhereTaken, even Flagle and Globle. My favourites are Worldle and Where Taken, because I am learning so much geography and other international fun facts. I like the picture-based or photo-based guessing component, as well as the questions that follow, such as neighboring countries, flag, etc. Do you know of any other free world geography-based games? Am open to other super fun daily games too, as long as they are accessible on mobile phone. Ideally I wouldn’t need to create an account. Thank you in advancele!

Have you tried out Tradle? You get a graph of a country's exports and have to guess the country. It's a good mix of country facts and geography knowledge (once you guess, it tells you the answer is, say, 1200 km southeast, so you might know you need to switch from Africa to South America) and it's more fun than I'd expect a game about a country's exports to be!

Travle has you find the countries that connect two others. (Make sure to read the more info for some water-crossing edge cases.)

+1 for the previously mentioned PlusWord. To make things more fun, I do PlusWord first, and use its answer as the first Wordle guess.

Waffle. You swap letters around to make 6 5-letter words. You have limited swaps, but there is always a solution to do it in 10 swaps. There's also a weekly Deluxe Waffle which is bigger and harder (but you have unlimited swaps).

The real reason I'm recommending it is that after finishing it, you get the definition and origins of the word (possibly to be taken with a grain of salt) and an example of the use of the word in a sentence. This will often be a bad pun and it is fun to share the groans!

Eg - for the word niche: "the love of alcoves is a niche interest"; for crane: "I watched a documentary about cranes, it was very uplifting"

Timeguessr is a lot of fun and seems to fit what you're looking for. You get a random photo and have to guess where and when it was taken. Sometimes you get an easily recognisable place/event but it can also be quite difficult. We like the added historical aspect so you're not just looking for landmarks/flags/signs but also looking at the types of cars/fashion/hairstyles that give you clues about when the photo was taken.

It can be played on mobile but it's a bit buggy so best played on desktop.

You need to know London, but Metrodle is a pretty fun game for guessing a London Underground station from the little segment of the map that it sits on.

I like Timeguesser except that it lacks bells & whistles, e.g. stats
