DIY/substitute case for three octave synthesizer
March 9, 2023 3:26 PM

I'm trying to find a durable plastic case to fit my Korg Wavestate, a three octave synthesizer, without paying $$$ for it.

Something like this, if I add some foam, will work:

But these have to be purchased in groups of two. From my research, cases under 20" in length are relatively inexpensive, under $100. Once you go over 20", prices skyrocket and options shrink.

I have poked around of the usual places: Amazon, AliExpress, but am not finding anything that fits the bill.

I can probably repurpose a large duffel bag or other soft bag, but I'd really prefer something with hard sides, that isn't too heavy. The keyboard itself only weighs 8 pounds!

I'm a member of some Wavestate Facebook groups and I see that someone recommended this MAGMA DJ Controller case or this UDG model available from Thomann US. Availability is low so order soon, I guess.

I use a vintage hard-sided suitcase for my similar-sized Korg Minilogue, works great! These can range in price quite a bit, kind of a matter of what kinds of second hand stores you have and how long you are willing look. But if you have ' antique barn' type places around they should be available for less than the new cases, work as well or better, and look cooler too :)
