seeking *durable* short sleeve mandarin collar shirt for men
March 6, 2023 1:04 PM
I am a fan stylistically of various mandarin collared things, but specifically, want a *durable* short sleeve brand. They sorta look like polos but with mandarin collar. My last two purchases looked great for maybe 2 wears, then stared disassembling their stitching despite delicate wash and hang dry. Rec for hardy brands?

Thanks! Will explore. : ) (Either way would still pay more if I knew a thing would last longer)

Muji makes a linen shirt with this style collar but they only have it in summer. If you care for it properly, it will last years. I have many of them that are worn once a week and are at least 6 years old. Wash on delicate and hang dry. I believe they start stocking them in April / May. They're called French Linen Shirts and are offered with 3 different collar styles and 3 different sleeve lengths (short, long, and 3/4).

Uniqlo also sells these, also called a "grandad collar". I've had one for a few years, and it's holding up well.

Here are a few admittedly fast-fashion examples that show how different brands use alternative phrasing:
- H&M sells shirts with what they call a "band" or "banded" collar here.
- Zara also calls these "band collars" on individual listings like this, but the URL for shirts with these collars contains the word "mao" and the page title for that URL contains the phrase "Men's Mandarin Collar Shirts"
- Cos calls these "grandad" collars; example here.
- Muji calls these "stand collar" shirts here, as does Uniqlo.
- ASOS is a mixed bag - some items use grandad, others use "mandarin"
Good luck!
