Book ID: Art book about cats, published ca. 2000?

I saw a high-quality art book with paintings of cats (w/ w/out accompanying humans) on the New Books table in a hip urban bookshop around 1998-2002. Full of full-color reproductions of 19th & 20th c. oil paintings and more, with excellent colors and paper.

Accompanying text on the subject of the cat in art (perhaps based on author's dissertation?). I didn't buy the book, and now I'm curious to see it again. Unfortunately, my on online searches have left me empty-handed. In my recollection, the book was a large softcover and the image which formed the background of the cover was of an interior with a person and a cat. Can anyone ID it?
