Buying food from unionized places in NYC
November 11, 2022 8:04 AM
I want to buy food (groceries, restaurants) at places in NYC (any borough!) where the employees have a Union. Where can I do this?
Maybe there is already a list of places somewhere online but I could not find it.

I’m fairly sure Gristedes supermarkets are.

Here's one list of groceries. I used to go to Fairway.

The Park Slope Food Coop isn't unionized, but given the background and other values of the coop, you may still be interested in it.

Local 100 is a union for workers in "cafeterias, executive dining rooms, restaurants, bars, delis, airports, sports and exhibition halls and performing arts centers throughout New York City, Westchester, Long Island and New Jersey." Want to know where you can enjoy good food served and prepared by workers who have a union contract? Below is a list of restaurants, bars, and other places where Local 100 members work.
Starbucks' 23,000 sq. ft Reserve Roastery in the meatpacking district voted to unionize last April.

Generally, there will be a UFCW sticker in the window of the door (or nearby) of their supermarkets. My local Key Food is unionized.

Exemplifying the maxim there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism, Gristedes is owned by John Catsimatidis billionaire, buffoon, Manhattan republican patriarch and Trump apologist. I know your question was about supporting organized workers and everyone needs a paycheck, but it’s not somewhere I voluntarily spend my money.
