How can I create a personal news and data monitor with autoupdates?
November 2, 2022 7:17 AM

I have a third monitor for my Mac and am interested in creating an "at a glance" screen (either in software or a webpage) that would have multiple widgets that auto-update. Things like a news feed, Twitter feed, weather radar, stocks. A bit like Apple Widgets, but displaying all the time on a dedicated screen. Any options?

There are many services that offer this for your start page in Google Chrome or Firefox. Just keep this window opened on your third monitor at fullscreen and you are good to go. Some options include: New Tab Studio, NetVibes, TabLiss, Productivity Tab, Start Me, UStart.

I use this site The WebList to track many news sources simultaneously.

You could also very easily build your own using a simple Wordpress theme and various plugins. Might be a better solution for ultimate customisability.

One of the more powerful, adaptable things you could do would be to hook the monitor to a Raspberry Pi and run MagicMirror. It would take some doing, but it would be a fun project.
