thank you for filing your extension??

I got an email today from [popular tax prep company] thanking me for filing an extension. I did not file an extension; my taxes have been filed for weeks now, long since accepted, refund long since paid out. I attempted to contact [popular tax prep company] but their chat thing failed. Do I need to pursue this to the ends of the identity-theft Earth or is this more likely just an email glitch?
I can obviously keep trying to contact the tax prep company and the IRS and all but I'm just up to my armpits in random life admin bullshit for the next few weeks and would VERY MUCH not like to do more of it than is required.
For what it's worth I do have an email address that people frequently mistake for theirs, and get many emails for folks whose names are nearly but not quite mine.

Probably mistaken identity (i.e. someone fat-fingered their email address)
Many email providers let you add a suffix or alias to your email for specific tracking purposes, and I really do recommend you add a few letters, like "fin" or "mon" or "din" or whatever reminds you of money to the email alias and only use that alias when you had to enter email that had to do with money. So if the money-related stuff comes from somewhere else, you know it's very likely not legit.

Best answer: Yes I got that one too, I’m just assuming that they clicked on the wrong list and not worrying about it.

I also used a popular tax prep company a couple of weeks ago and ended up owing a small amount in taxes which I paid using the service. Two days later I got an email from said service saying my refund is on the way — so I am with Melismata above – they just send emails to the wrong list sometimes.
