Android 12 notification issues

Ever since updating my Pixel 4A to Android 12, the notifications while I'm using Google Maps cover the entire screen briefly. Obviously not ideal if I need the screen to navigate while driving. Is there a way to change this behavior?

Fish around in Android Auto settings (look for the Android Auto App, or search for "Android Auto" in settings) - there are some notification related settings, though I'm not sure there's any that are precisely what you want. Or disable Driving Mode entirely (search for Driving Mode in settings).
