Name This Dog!
December 16, 2019 1:29 PM

My husband and I just adopted a dog and none of the names we've come up with so far seem quite right. She is an 8 year old dachshund mix - maybe mixed with a Pomeranian? A picture here, and a bonus video showing how smart and sassy she is!

Our other dog is named Zaphod Beeblebrox (from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) and our girl who passed away in May was named Caprica (from Battlestar Galactica). She is smart, spunky and very vocal. She has a tiny little head, a curly tail and is quite pudgy (though we're working on that). Her previous name was Lady, and that's WAY too normal for us! Any brilliant ideas??

Her Majesty, the Lady Olivia T. Soppressata. The "T" stands for Trouble.

I think River is a nice name for a dog and she also reminds me of River Song from Doctor Who.

If you name her Leia it will keep familiar sounds from the name she already knows, and also name her after a smart, spunky, vocal character with sci fi cred.

How about Sherlock? Sherlock Could be a female name, and I think she looks a teensy bit like Mr Cumberbatch.

Slim Browning, after Lauren Bacall in To Have and Have Not. Silky, sassy, and if you need her, just whistle. You’re working on the slender!

Pippa! Or Mandalit del Barco, which the resident teenager wouldn't let me use, and anyway I got stuck on whether it would be a tribute or vaguely insulting.

At eight years old, I'd stay with the name she knows. On the other hand, do the previous caretakers really know her name, or are they guessing?
Lady is close enough to Leia, as in "Princess," "Senator," etc. Leia Organa of the Star Wars franchise. Leeloo Minaï Lekatariba-Laminaï-Tchaï Ekbat de Sebat is from The Fifth Element.
