Would this be a frivolous use of GoFundMe?

I need and miss lap swimming. My arthritic joints are demanding it. I investigated the neighborhood WMCA. $50 for a once-only fee, then $55 monthly thereafter. They do not offer a pro-rated pool-use only plan. So, altogether, that would be $105.

Finances are very tight in my household the months of August and September. I'm planning on a campaign to raise $160; that's the $50 one-time fee and two month's worth of membership. That would see me though the tight spot.
I know GoFundMe is ideally used for cancer treatments, out-of-sight vet bills, etc. (I did an Ask Metafilter search on the subject.) But I've also seen it used for crap like a kid's "destination birthday party." Grrrrrrr!
I plan to post it on my Facebook page, with the caveat that if anyone thinks it's a too frivolous cause, please to ignore, and don't break my heart by telling me so.
What do you all think?

I think that would be very understandable and fine to use GoFundMe for it. Like you said, if people don’t want to donate, they won’t.

I’m sure you already have, but double check with the Y if they can work with you at all for an even more reduced rate. This may be income based or it may just be a donor who likes to help out people in tight spots.

I personally think you can use it for whatever you want - go for it.
