Problem using "show in calendar" on an iPhone

I cannot use the "show in calendar" option when clicking on dates within emails on my iPhone. Can this be fixed?

I have an iPhone 8 with iOS 11.4. I cannot use the "show in calendar" option when clicking on dates within emails. It is a close variation of a problem described (but not answered) here on an Apple forum. To quote from that question:

-If I click on a date shown in an email, it gives me options to "Create Event", "Show in Calendar", or "Copy". When I click "Show in Calendar", the screen switches to the Calendar app, where it shows that date, but then immediately moves to today's date. If I switch back to the email, and perform the same function "Show in Calendar", it will then allow me to go straight to that date without switching back to today.

My situation is actually a little worse in that the action described above in bold text (i.e., being able to use "show in calendar" when switching back to the email) doesn't work for me. I am never able to view a date on the calendar app for more than a split-second when clicking "show in calendar." It always swiftly reverts to today's date.

Other potentially relevant information:
- I have both a work email account and Gmail on the phone and the issue occurs with dates in emails in both.
- I'm accessing the email messages from the standard Mail app and trying to open dates from email messages within the standard Calendar app.
- The "create event" and "copy event" links do work when I click on dates within emails.
- I don't recall precisely when the issue started, but the phone is about 6 months old and there was a time, maybe 3 months ago, when I didn't have this problem.

Thanks in advance for any help.
