I need an Epic!

There has to be, somewhere in history, a primal story where two deities make a bet about turning a mortal immortal. I need that story for a project.

Bonus points if involves a dog. Bonus points if the deities are Female and Male. Super bonus points if a dog is the being that becomes immortal.

Presumably Sandman #13, "Men of Good Fortune" doesn't fit your historicity criterion, but it's not a bad place to start.

Maybe the story of Tithonus? Eos, the goddess of dawn, fell in love with him, and asked Zeus to make him immortal. Which he did. But Zeus neglected to make him ageless, so he got older and older. As he aged, he eventually became so withered that he became a cricket. It doesn’t involve a bet but if you’re allowed to use it as the basis for a telling, rather than a straight adaptation, you might be able to get one in there.

"The Book of Life" kind of fits your requirements.

Here is a list of all deified mortals in Greek mythology. On a quick read-through I don't see anything involving bets or dogs, but it might provide some inspiration.

Probably not what you're looking for, but Fifteen Dogs: A bet between the gods Hermes and Apollo leads them to grant human consciousness and language to a group of dogs overnighting at a Toronto veterinary clinic.
