Louis Armstrong quote regarding marijuana

Looking for a Louis Armstrong quote regarding marijuana.
I don't like my chances here. My clues are extrememly limited.
I read it in a book. He mentions how his opinion of someone changes for the better when he finds out they partake of the weed. I think he uses the words that "he feels a kindred spirit with them" or something like that.
That's all I got, I'm afraid.

Response by poster: Thanks Gator. Brilliant work.
I've never heard of this "search inside" feature on Amazon. Do they have the whole text of books on searchable file?
Er, and thanks again!

Yeah, pretty much, though it's not available for every book, and you're only allowed to use it so much before you get a message to the effect that, "Okay, you've done enough free searching inside for one day. Come back tomorrow" or something like that. (And I believe you have to be signed in to an Amazon account in order to use it at all).
Glad I could help!

Response by poster: pmbuko, don't I know it! I tried every damn permutation on Google (considering the only word I was fairly sure he said was "kindred" and it turns out to be "kinship" doesn't help much either) and that seemed to be the only quote I'd get. From dozens of sites.
The full quote being:
It really puzzles me to see marijuana connected with narcotics dope and all of that stuff. It is a thousand times better than whiskey. It is an assistant and a friend.

Yeah, Google wasn't a whole lot of help with this (I guess I'm the only person who never knew he was such a weed fan!), except that I learned that his preferred term for the stuff was "gage." So I headed over to the biographies on Amazon and looked for that word. Voila!

I could have sworn that Ken Burns referenced Armstrong's affection for the kind in his Jazz documentary. I haven't seen it in years though.
Thanks Gator.

The quote is: "It relaxes you, makes you forget all the bad things that happen to a Negro. It makes you feel wanted, and when you're with another tea smoker it makes you feel a special kinship."
