Name that song filter: 1990s, female artist, line "...into the quagmire"

This was in New Zealand and I haven't heard it for years now, so it may be a New Zealand artist. I loved the song but I can't figure out what it is, or who. Help!

What type of voice was it, type of music (soloist, rock band, pop), can you remember any other lyrics, or if not was it:
into the quagmire blah blah blah/
or
blah blah blah into the quagmire/
?
And what year do you definitely remember hearing it?

Response by poster: I'd say it was pop, a slow song, and "in to the quagmire..." was at the end of a line. I reckon it was probably around 1993.

Off the top of my head, sounds like it could very likely be an Aimee Mann song.
