Kansas City whether the Chiefs are in the Super Bowl or not!

I'm going to be in Kansas City during Super Bowl weekend. Yay! But I have no idea what area to stay in, so can MeFi help me out? Also interested in hearing about things to do!

I will be in KC for a long weekend during the Super Bowl, which is irrelevant unless the Chiefs make it.

My main question at this point is what would be the best area for me to stay in? I've been looking and it seems as if the nightlife is spread out, which will be a big deal for me while I'm there and don't want to go too far. I was looking into Downtown but also Westport. Would also like this area to be walkable if that's not too much to ask. So KC experts, what would be a good central location for me? It seems like Westport might be ideal but I'd like confirmation on that! I probably won't have a car either.

As for things to do, feel free to suggest that as well. I like to explore anything unique that other cities may have, like museums, and good food. Burgers, pizza, good bakeries...whatever.

I always stay with family in the KC area, so I can't speak from experience about the best places to stay. If nightlife is your thing, Westport is definitely the place to be. Depending on your preferred lodging, you'll have a bit less choice than if you stayed downtown or in the Country Club Plaza area.

The Country Club Plaza area is very walkable and might be a good area to stay in if you are interested in art museums, as both the Kemper and the Nelson-Atkins are there. There are also a number of parks in that area. The Plaza has a lot of shops and restaurants, but tends to be more on the chain side (think P.F. Changs) than unique local eateries.

What you might consider is staying somewhere in between Westport and the Plaza, near the art museums, that way you could access the Plaza, parks, and museums during the day but still be in distance of Westport for the nightlife.

Downtown will offer you more lodging choice but likely at a price. You'll also have more options here for performing arts events.

Things to see and do: Union Station/Science City, the Steamboat Arabia museum is pretty neat and rather unique, the aforementioned Nelson-Atkins and Kemper, the World War I monument/museum are all good.
