What makes you stay committed?

I love the idea of staying with one person all my life and the depth of relationship that would develop over time. So, people who have been together a long, long time... How do you manage to stay, and not look for the new or the more exciting? Do you ever have crushes on other people? How do you manage this? What makes you stay instead of being tempted with a new life with someone else (or alone)? How do you deepen commitment? Or do you just wait for the time to be ripe for it to naturally come about?
This post was deleted for the following reason: Heya, this is way too broadly framed to really work; if you have a specific concern/challenge in your own relationship, asking for advice or experiences tied to that would be okay, but just shotgunning the general idea of commitment without a clear context is too chatty. -- cortex
