Sam Becket for President!

If a complete novice were to Quantum Leap into the Oval office (like that could ever happen!), what questions or statements would be most useful for her or him to have in mind while running the country?

The election of He Who Must Not Be Named and now the suggestion from Oprah Winfrey that she may consider a presidential run has got me thinking about what pithy bits of advice would be most useful to a non-politician who suddenly becomes the most powerful person in the world. There are obvious, vague statements like 'Do no harm' and 'Create the greatest possible happiness for the greatest possible number of people', but what about more specific slices of wisdom, perhaps to guide economic policy or defence, or maybe just to help that person cope psychologically with the enormous pressure of running a country? What advice would you give?

"Never get involved in a land war in Asia" was originally intended as a joke, but it's pretty good advice.

A lot of the guidance you'd want/need would be partisan, but "surround yourself with the smartest people" is pretty broad while still being useful.
