Could these anti-social sex strategies actually work?

Recently, there was a post here asking about a guy who invited a woman out, then rudely insulted her when he turned her down. I've seen other women talk about this, encountering a guy online, opening up a conversation, and getting an anti-social remark when they decline. Could it be that what seems rude and distasteful to most people is actually a counter-intuitive strategy that sometimes works?

I'm curious because it does seem to happen more often. It reminded me of the trend of men sending pictures of their genitalia to strangers they meet online. This is bewildering to me as well because it doesn't seem like that would be an effective way to seduce someone.

But on the other hand, I couldn't help but wonder if I'm being naive when I see articles like this from a mainstream publication like Buzzfeed.

What do you think? There have been counterintuitive interactions between men and women before, like the whole "negging" phenomenon that's gone mainstream.
