Sold an iPad without unlocking it
February 27, 2016 8:49 AM

I sold an iPad on eBay and shipped it to the buyer, who then informed me that it's still locked to my wife's Apple ID. Is there any way I could work with the buyer to unlock it remotely, or does he have to send it back to me?

I think you need to remove it from your icloud account / disable activation lock. There's some steps here, including for when you no longer have the device. Or here.

Yeah, I've done the same thing. You can do this remotely, as advil says. Takes about five minutes as long as you have the account email and password.

Also, just to be clear, ipads with activation lock act like they're stolen until you do this. So it's a necessary part of selling them now.

Same thing happened to me when I sold my iPad. Just follow Apple's instructions and when they reboot they'll be able to log in.
