Looking for tour guide (book) for the U.S. written for Spanish speakers
October 4, 2015 12:27 PM

I'm interested in finding a guide book for tourists (a la Frommer's, Fodor's, Lonely Planet, etc.) with the U.S. as its subject, in Spanish, published for distribution in Spain or Mexico or other parts of Latin America. A book dealing in one or more regions of the U.S. would be okay, but not one limited to a specific city or state. Various searches in Amazon ("guia turistica estados unidos", "guia viaje estados unidos" etc.) bring up some guidebooks for specific U.S. cities or states, but nothing for the country as a whole. Surely what I'm looking for exists? If so, where else should I be searching, and/or what different search terms should I be using? By the way, used books would be fine - preferred, even, if not too old.

Btw, as I'm a gringo I'm not familiar with any Spanish-language bookselling sites. Suggestions of such websites would probably solve this problem.

i just tried antarctica.cl which was the first url i could think of for a local bookstore and there don't seem to be many for the whole usa. i found this for children, and several in this series (that's east coast).

you could also try feria chilena del libro and que leo.

sorry if this is too parochial, it's just what i know of here.

(ps on amazon, "spanish edition" is the magic phrase, but not much there either).
(pps i can buy and mail something, but books and postage are both expensive here so you'd be better using amazon if possible).

I found some options on Amazon searching the travel category for "estados unidos" and "ee uu", although many are older or crazy expensive. You can look at amazon.es too if you can read enough Spanish to navigate the site.

It looks like Lonely Planet Spain hasn't done a book for the whole US in several years, so the available copies of that tend to be limited and over $100, even on amazon.es. I saw some other options that might make more sense. There's a few Kindle books on amazon.es that aren't very expensive, but rights/billing address issues may prevent you from buying them.

There's a Spanish edition ebook Lonely Planet for the United States, published in 2013, listed for 12.99 €.

Edit: There's also a paperback (tapa blanda) 2012 edition of the same book. They only seem to be available from other sellers.

The Guias Visuales line are the ones I always saw Spanish tourists using throughout Europe. (I think they're the same as the Eyewitness guides in the US.) Amazon US is selling the Spanish-language USA guide.
