What to wear with a light pink dress to a summer wedding?
July 24, 2015 11:07 AM

I found the dress now I need the rest!

I'm wearing this dress to an outdoor summer wedding. (Sorry for the bad photo quality - no comments on the dress being short please!)

What colour/type of shoes should I wear with it? (They have to be flats or wedges because the wedding is taking place on an uneven lawn). They also have to be something that allows me to play the pedal on an electronic piano because I am performing during the ceremony.

Should I wear a shawl/scarf/cardigan with it and if so, what colour?

What about a purse/clutch/handbag?

Do you need to know my skin colour etc?? I have auburn hair, blue/green eyes and lots of freckles (not sure if this matters??).

I don't know anything about wedding fashion/etiquette so your suggestions are much needed! It's a fairly casual (GAY!) wedding but men are still asked to wear a suit. Not sure what women are supposed to wear there. In terms of budget--- I'm not willing to spend more than $100 on all three accessories combined.

Wear silver, gold, or nude shoes. Wear a shawl, scarf, or cardigan if you'll be cold, otherwise, skip it. White cardigan would be okay and probably easiest. Silver, gold, or light-colored purse would work best. My two cents!

I would do a natural color wedge sandal. Straw, beige, off white, or taupe. Example.

Match your clutch to your shoe or carry a straw and or white clutch. Example one. Example two.

White shrug or cardigan if it will make you more comfortable.

That dress is all kinds of adorable. I'd vote for light beigy-pink (what used to be called 'nude'/'skin tone') or matching colour ballet flats.

A plain white scarf/shawl would be best--it's summer, you likely won't need it until really late.

Small clutch, match to the scarf.

Also if you are at all concerned about whether the dress is appropriate, ask one of the grooms.

I love the dress! It has a very "ballet" feel to me, especially with the pink color, so I think I'd go with ballet flats in either white, nude, or gold. Maybe something like this.

I would probably bring a cardigan only because I tend to freeze, but if it's summer and the forecast is good, I don't think it's needed for modesty.

Since it is short (not too short! just short) and ethereal, and since you sound like you're more of an Autumn than a Spring or Summer, I'd personally go with something a little more solid than more blush/beige/nude colors. Like a strappy white & cork shoe, or a dusty blue/lavender shoe, see here-- something that brings it back to reality a bit. That's just me, though. (I'd also definitely bring a jacket-- maybe a structured, white or tan colored blazer, or something like that, that also balanced it out a bit. If it were a casual setting, I'd say a denim jacket, but at a wedding maybe something more polished.)

Just saw that you said fairly casual-- in that case, and with your coloring, I'd try a denim jacket + a strappy white & cork/natural shoe (maybe a wedge, ta-da).

For purse/clutch/handbag, if you're going for quirky instead of matchy-matchy, I'd vote something like this or this. (The second is too pricey for your range, but you get the idea.)

I would personally go for an aqua cardigan - it's a beautiful colour and work beautifully with your colouring. Silver accessories.

A bronze ballet flat would look awesome with your hair and (beautiful) dress.

Silver or nude/blush ballet flats. A cardigan if you'll be cold but otherwise not.

For the record I ended up going with these
