Date these sugar cubes

I found a very old box of Domino sugar cubes today and I am trying to get a better estimate on how old it is or what decade it is from.

At least at some point in the 50s, it looks like the logo didn't have a star. I'd guess late 50s or early 60s, but don't have an exact year...

I'm unable to find anything more than a general citation right now on the FTC's "Made in the USA" standard, but if you don't find "Made in the USA" (or something equivalent) on the box, you can pretty reliably date it pre-1960. This is true, at least, for a lot of consumer goods and textiles. I'm not aware of any different rules for food labeling, but there might be some weird quirk in either FTC (or FDA?) regulations.

Does the address for the coffeepot giveaway have a zip code or 3 digit state abbreviation?

Best answer: This particular star over the i matches the star in logos from Domino ads from 1966. The latest ad I found with a dot over the i was from 1962. The earliest ad I found with a different star design was 1968. So, I'd stick it firmly in the mid 60s.

Well, it's between 1959 and 1964. That 8-pointed logo did not appear in this 1959 Life Magazine ad, and did appear in this 1964 Life Magazine ad.

Best answer: It's from 1970.

Do a search in Google Books for for "domino dots" and espresso coffeemaker and you get a snippet of "Incentive Marketing" magazine, voleume 130, dated 1970, with the following text:

THE PROMOTION: American Sugar Co., New York, in support of its Domino dots, offered consumers an espresso coffee pot, a claimed $10.95 value, for $6.95 and the coupon from the package. The program was supported only on the back ...

Best answer: For what it's worth, it's not necessarily from 1970-- it's from not later than 1970. The incentive marketing volume was published that year, but it could be describing something from a prior year. I think phunniemee has got it right with the logo research.

I agree, case studies are usually written some time after the actual ad runs (and this was probably even more true back then). Because the logo changed in 1968, it is probably before 1968.
