How did you end up with the love of your life 'against all odds'?

I have had a strange, entirely unique experience - I've developed a profound connection with a man I began to work with.

Despite being a romantic, I wouldn't use the words 'love at first sight' lightly (i.e. never). The interesting thing is, I've always ended up in relationships with men who have pursued me, and been wooed/flattered by their perceptions of me, and how I've made them feel. I've never been with someone I've felt an initial connection with, who I've admired, and now I feel this, and it's deeper than a physical attraction, or a superficial crush.

The problem is - he's taken. Which leads me to my question - have you ended up with the love of your life, despite all odds, despite them being taken when you first met, despite them living in another country, despite anything, years passing, even?

Just to be clear, I'm not looking to sabotage a relationship, merely to dwell in a private romantic daydream of possibility.
