How likely is it that anti-vaxxers will cause the return of, say, polio?

This article in today's Globe got me thinking. The Jenny McCarthyite-woo crowd is creating enough havoc with the spread of measles. What if it were an even more deadly disease?

My questions: At what point will/should the affected governments step in to stop this public health menace before it becomes something much worse (such as the aforementioned polio)? What can individuals do to offset all the bullshit information that is floating around out there? Should anti-vaxxers' kids be vaccinated against parents' will?

This subject gets me really riled. Peoples' health is at risk because of a massive failure of critical thinking skills. This shit needs to stop.
