Seeking superlative sturdy socks

I have some nice thick comfy everyday socks. Where can I get more like them?

Behold my favorite socks.

I bought them years ago, and I have no idea who made them.

They're nice and thick and comfy. I think they're almost a centimeter thick - not quite as thick as hiking socks, but much thicker than most women's dress socks.

I thought they might be Gold Toe (given that they all have gold toes), so I went looking for similar Gold Toe socks, but I'm seeing a lot of worrying reviews, with people complaining about thinness and poor quality.

I would really like to find more socks like these:

* nice and thick and soft
* dark colors (like the blue) are good
* good quality
* ideally come in packs, costing $2-4 a pair, not $12-15 a pair
* ideally use a lot more natural fibers than synthetic
* crew style is best but knee socks or other styles might be okay too

Can you suggest some socks that would fit these preferences?

Best answer: After seeing them mention in a number of sock threads here, I tried some Costco merino blend hiking socks (men's; women's) and I think they're pretty great. Cushy, breathe well, cost about $11-12 a four-pack.

Best answer: Thorlos are outside your price range BUT will send you one free pair, so if you're willing to share your mailing address with them, might be worth it to get a free pair of good socks? There's a free offer on the thorlo.com site.

I should note that I specifically wear the padded ones, which are extra thick and soft, so I can't verify that the 'regular' ones are the same. I'd try out the padded ones for my free pair, were I you.

You might want to think about that. I had a bunch of Thorlos that lasted me 16 years. The second batch is going on 9. Quality is economy.

I love the Costco merino socks, they are great for everyday wear. I've only worn them a couple of years, though, so I can't speak to their long term durability.

Another vote for the Costco merinos. They're very comfortable and will last you a few years, although like any socks they will eventually wear through.

Those Costco hiking socks are my favorite socks ever. They are my winter insurance policy. I am wearing them right now, dawn to dusk.

I will ask Thorlo for a free pair to check them out, and it looks like I'll have to go join Costco again.
