Looking for Crownfunding and Venture Capital (for Africa) resources
January 5, 2015 8:47 AM

I started and IT Services company a few years back and, although it is growing steadily, I'm hitting a wall: cash shortage. Here's where I was a couple of months ago.

Not being comfortably funded is making things difficult and it is preventing the business from growing, a pity since the potential is there and it is huge.

We very recently won a tender worth half a million USD but I’m afraid I won’t be able to find the resources to fund and execute the project - and I am not sure I will be able to sign the contract (it will be a good couple of months before the signing bit takes place). Banks here won’t lend if you don’t give them a collateral at least the value of what you’re asking in the first place.

I'm looking for a couple hundred thousand dollars and think this isn't a huge amount to raise. So my question is this: where do I find info about VC firms interested in Africa, as well as crowdfunding platforms that cater specifically to the for-profit-Africa-based segment?

Take a look at Invested Development, Savannah Fund and 88mph to start with. If you have more specific details about what you do I'll probably be able to recommend some more. PM me if necessary.
