Welcome to the club! Here's your ____________.
December 16, 2014 10:11 AM
So, I was born at a summer camp (well, in a nearby hospital, but that was where we lived when I was born). Since then, there have been 7 other kids born there, and as the oldest I'd like to give them all something as a sort of "welcome to the club" gift.
But what??
Requirements inside...
Currently our ages are: 39, 35, 30, 28, 13, 11, 1, and 0 (4 days old!). Half female, half male.
So it needs to be:
--something we would all like
--something that can be personalized to say "Camp Stevens Native" or whatever (also our symbol is a sprouting acorn if that gives you any ideas)
--something not too expensive, because I need to buy 8 of them...maybe $20 at the most?
--something that will continue to be available in the future, since there will probably be more of us
--something cool that will hopefully be a treasured possession

A laminated card for Unlimited Free Sunsets (limit one per day, only valid at Camp Stevens).

From tiny acorns grow mighty oaks..... maybe plant an oak at the camp in each person's honor? And give them a wooden plaque with an acorn on it, and something like
"Camp Acorn Club Life Member
exceptinsects
2014 (or whatever their birthyear is)"

Planting an oak is a nice idea, though I'd be sad if I returned and my oak was dead while others were tall and happy. Maybe an oak seedling with a plaque and replanting instructions?

Etsy vendors offer all kinds of acorn pendants (real and not). You could pick a style that would suit males and females. Or even make your own with real acorns!
Or, an art print from an artist on Society6? The small prints would probably fit your budget, and if you contacted the artist with your "plan" you could make sure that they'd have the print available when you need it in the future.

Another idea: The rise in popularity of destination weddings means a ton of "fake passport" invitation templates all over the web. Maybe you could give each native their own Camp Stevens passport, and print new ones as needed.

I think this definitely calls for embroidered scout badges! Lots of places do these, and there's a couple Etsy sellers making cute ones too.

We have a similar club at my summer camp, although it's all women. We have tie pins (for our girls' camp ties) and pendants, made of roman numeral figures significant to us. Since your camp's symbol is an acorn, how about engaging with an artist or jewelry designer to make n silver acorn pendants and n silver acorn lapel/tie pins? The camp keeps a box of the stock on hand throughout the years to ensure similarity over time as new members are born. Little kids can wear the pins and pendants too.

What about some sort of engraved or custom keychain? There may even be something camp themed that could be custom engraved. Check with wholesale websites, engravers, and trophy shops. (Not to mention etsy!)

I think this calls for a personalized Christmas ornament. Shutterfly makes great ornaments and they usually have coupon codes.
If not Shutterfly try Etsy or a local craft maker. A wooden ornament with some custom wood burning would be super sweet.

Is there anything that could be made by someone at the camp? The summer camp I went to had a glassblowing shop, and I recall that the teacher made some sort of special trinket for campers who were really into glassblowing. Does the camp have a woodshop, metalworking, anything like that?
