Wine delivery in NYC?

I would like to gift some wine to a friend in Manhattan. What's the best way to do this?
I am repaying a professional favour and would like to have some wine sent to a colleague who works at an office in Midtown. Has anyone else done this and has any recommendations for who might be best to do this?
I'm assuming there is an online wine store that I could do this through, and want to hear if people have had good experiences with any company in particular.

Really every good wine store will deliver and NY is a pretty easy state for other vendors to ship to.
If you know in what you want to buy just check wine searcher

Best answer: Can't say I have ever ordered a wine delivery, but I have bought wine at the below store many times, and I can vouch for their credibility.

I can't guarantee you would have a good experience ordering from them, but having met the people that work there, I would be shocked if you did not.

I'm pretty sure Amazon doesn't ship to NY.
Nth-ing the recommendation for Astor -- you also might want to check out DrinkUpNY.

Best answer: Astor and Crush are both stores with good service and mostly (but not exclusively) high prices. The thing is, New York is loaded with smaller stores that are excellent and tend to carry wines you won't find in just any shop. I really like Appellation NYC, which has wines from all over the world in many styles. For someone more geeky or focused on natural wines, Chambers St Wines is one of the best in the whole US, though they charge $15 for delivery above Canal St unless you hit their minimum. I bet Brooklyn Wine Exchange, which has neat NY spirits in addition to wine, will deliver to midtown.

Best answer: Astor is an excellent suggestion.
I think the store that does the most wine delivery in Midtown is Sherry-Lehmann. I have had them ship a gift of wine for me to CT, and they did a good job. I believe they will deliver within NYC and out to the Hamptons in the summer. They are not inexpensive, but I am willing to bet they do a huge number of professional wine gifts this time of year.
If you want something more delicious and unusual, though, try Moore Brothers - they have relationships with many small producers in France and Germany and I think Spain? and they ship all of their wines in refrigerated containers. Even their store in NYC is kept at cellar temperature. I usually shop at their store but I believe they have a delivery/shipping service.

Best answer: For what it's worth, I nth Astor, and my friend who's worked at wine stores tells me their prices are actually quite reasonable. Also, nicer to go local than Amazon, I think.
