Watermelon in the NE in winter?

Where / how do I buy whole watermelons during the fall/winter (i.e. now?) Am located in a major metropolis in the NE USA. Thanks!

I presume they'll be imported, and be expensive and whatnot, but is there still a way? Failing that, how do I even buy pre-sliced in bulk? It doesn't seem to be in most of the stores anymore...

Do you live near a Market Basket? They have all sorts of out of season, unusual and cheap(!) produce.

Might check Mexican stores? I'm in the NW, so of course that may make it quite different, but even the small local mercados around here tend to carry an assortment of tropical fruit and melons during the winter. (This could totally be because we're not all that far from the eastern OR/WA growing area, too, I don't know. Thinking about it, there might be watermelons in my regular supermarket right now. Not sure. Pretty sure there were some cantaloupe last week.)

I bought "personal" watermelons at my (Alaska) Costco a week ago and saw them there again today. Maybe yours might have them too?

We have watermelons from South America in our supermarkets. Just ask your produce person if they can special order them for you.

But finding out of season fruit is no biggie any more.

I'm right outside Boston and I just did a shop at Market Basket and they have loads of watermelons, whole and sliced. I'm sure they'd cut up a lot for you if you asked.

Also Wegman's, Star, and Stop and Shop all have watermelons.

They have whole ones at Whole Foods in Boston, so you could give them a call and check.

Just saw watermelons today at HMart in Hartsdale, NY. Don't know if you're near an HMart or if all of them have them.
